Safety Guide
LAST UPDATED: 13 JUNE 2026 · VERSION 2.0
CruiseCtrl gives you tools to meet safely — but your safety comes first, always. Here's how to look after yourself and each other.
Before you meet
- Use Safe Meet. Nominate a trusted buddy and a "safe by" time. If you don't check in, they get your meeting details and location.
- Video or voice first. A quick Voice Vibe or call helps confirm someone is who they say.
- Tell a friend where you're going, who with, and when you'll be back — and share a screenshot of the profile.
- Trust your gut. If something feels off, cancel. You never owe anyone a meeting.
When you meet
- Meet in public first and arrange your own transport so you can leave whenever you want.
- Stay sober enough to make decisions, and keep an eye on your drink.
- Protect your privacy — don't share your home address, workplace or financial details early on.
Your privacy & being out on your terms
- You decide who knows. Use Ghost Mode and our privacy controls; keep identifying details (full name, workplace, recognisable backgrounds) out of public photos.
- Be careful with explicit images. Assume anything you send can be screenshotted. Never feel pressured to send nudes.
- Outing is abuse. Don't out anyone, and report anyone who threatens to expose you. We never share your orientation or HIV status with advertisers.
- Travelling? Same-sex relationships are still criminalised in 60+ countries and dangerous in others. Check a current map (e.g. ILGA World) before you go, and consider turning location off while you travel.
Scams & sextortion
- Watch for anyone who rushes intimacy, pushes you to move to WhatsApp/another app, or asks for money, gift cards or crypto.
- Sextortion is real and often targets closeted or queer men with threats to "out" them. If it happens: don't pay (they usually escalate anyway), stop contact and block, don't delete — keep screenshots/evidence — and report to us and the police.
- Get intimate images removed: if you're 18+, StopNCII.org can hash and block them across partner platforms (your image never leaves your device). For images of someone who was under 18, use Take It Down.
Sexual health
- Talk openly about testing, status and protection — it's normal, and it's caring.
- Know your local sexual-health and PrEP/PEP services.
- HIV status is private. Never out anyone's status, and don't expect anyone to disclose.
Get help
